2008 In Review

1. Our new library room was designed and built. It features recessed lighting, five sets of bookshelves, climate controlled and has the first window in our museum.

2. A kitchenette was constructed with new countertop, cabinet, refrigerator, crock-pot and freestanding closet chest.

3. Also added was a utility room with light for storage of museum supplies.

4. Our old sea box was rusting away. The doors would not close without major work. A new sea box was acquired and the replacement done in a single morning.

5. The rail bus (LVC-NRHS) and PS trolley (NJERHS) moved under their own power.

6. Electric power and lights made operable during June in the car shop.

7. First ever demonstration trip to Roseland Centennial Fair.

8. North and south yard exhibit tracks connected with switches enabling full size train operations.

9. Chestnut Ridge Norco tie puller crane runs under its own power.

10. Annual banquet in April.

11. July open house with first official visit by Susquehanna Volunteers.

12. October open house with bus load from Roseland; sets record for patrons riding the Centerville & Southwestern (224 tickets given).

13. August annual picnic with canal boat ride.

14. Field trip to Bayonne to commemorate Newark Bay Bridge disaster.

15. Two shows attended for display of PRRH items.

16. Year 2008 finished with record volunteer hours served.

Next year. We will get into more heavier work ourselves as we continue to improve the property. Planned are:

1. Construct ADA compliant ramp and platforms.

2. Extend full size south track to bumper’s end beside museum entrance.

3. Build infrastructure improvements to C&S with bypass main built and extended around south edge of car shop.

4. C&S yard tracks built and extended around east end of shop to expand storing capacity of equipment.

5. Anticipate western Phase I expansion of C&S with approval; pending with New Jersey Transit.

6. Run a joint trip to the Catskills with Lehigh Valley Chapter.
