Photo #13: Found some negatives from Easton, PA of the 1955 flood of the Delaware and Lehigh Rivers.
In August of 1955, the area experienced two Hurricanes. The first, Hurricane Connie dumped a large amount of rain throughout the region. Two weeks later Hurricane Diane struck the area and with the area soaked from the heavy rains of Connie, the ground couldn't hold anymore water and the results were disastrous. The Northeast took a heavy loss of life and property.
These two photos were taken from the CNJ bridge in Easton.
The first shows the South Third Street area, where the Lehigh flooding occurred. The location today is where McDonald's and the WaWa store now sit. The L&HR bridge can be seen in the background.
